Meet Our Scholars

Over the years, our scholarship recipients have completed college and gone on to have productive careers in needed professions, often paying it forward to others in the community. Through their dedication and hard work, our current scholars are continuing this legacy of excellence. Read on to see what a few of them have to say:

Alan

Alan is an engineer and was awarded the scholarship for four years. Here is what he said about what it meant to him:

"A huge thank you to you and the Dream Scholarship Committee for supporting me in school. I am very grateful to you all for all your willingness to help me consistently throughout these last few years. This scholarship made it possible for me to receive an education and break the cycle of poverty that many immigrants unfortunately face. The Dream Scholarship Committee has accepted me into a warm community which has motivated me to not only do well in school, but to also love my neighbor. I truly hope that I can use my education to help someone in the future, as I was helped by the committee. I am truly honored to have received this scholarship."

Lizbeth

"The Dream scholarship has given me more security as I work towards my bachelor’s degree. It has also been a source of encouragement knowing that there are people in my hometown that are giving back to Hendersonville’s LatinX community and the ways that it has changed in the pandemic. This experience has shown me the power of community."

Luis

"All my college experience and knowledge would not have been possible without the great help of the Dream Scholarship. I would not have been able to chase my dreams and make them a reality without generous donors like yourself. Not only do donors help students directly but also the community indirectly as these wonderful students grow and become a part of society and eventually are able to serve their community in their own way. I cannot wait to graduate with my Nursing License and serve the great people of this beautiful community. I know I speak not only for myself but for everyone who benefits from this scholarship when I say Thank You. Thank you for your compassion for others and your interest in helping those who will eventually become great members of society."

Since this was written, Luis has earned his nursing degree and works as a nurse in the area.

Roman

"The Dream Scholarship is a committee that acknowledges the adversity that is placed to disproportionally impact certain groups and/or communities in today’s society. The committee seeks to assist students who feel discouraged and dehumanized as a result of trying to achieve a basic, human right: an education. The scholarship is not only financial assistance, but rather a motivational push for faith and hope. Along with the monetary value of this scholarship, the committee’s dedication and core values highlight their authentic leadership.

“The committee is leading towards a social movement that creates representation for students who deserve the same opportunities, resources, and most importantly the support. Through the committee’s continuous support, I have been able to pay for expenses, add a minor, and explore career internships that otherwise would have been unavailable.

“I am beyond grateful for the committee’s support, guidance, and financial assistance in my college career. It is because of this committee’s mission and representation that I have hope for future generations. Recipients of this scholarship strive to not only represent the committee, but be an influencer to those facing similar challenges. We send a message of encouragement that people and organizations are willing to support our journey to success, despite the barriers we encounter."

Roman earned the scholarship for four years.
