About the Dream Scholarship

History

In 2012, a group of churches in Henderson County, NC, formed the DREAM Scholarship Committee. Their goal was to make college more affordable for students from our community who are required to pay out-of-state tuition to attend NC institutions and are often ineligible for financial aid. Today, many of our scholars are DACA recipients; however, each circumstance is different.

Together this all-volunteer group administers the scholarship program with financial management being handled by the Community Foundation of Henderson County.

While the status of the DACA program remains in limbo, the DREAM Scholarship has proven to be a constant. As of the 2023/24 academic year, we have made educational dreams come true for more than 50 recipients.

Any church, organization, business, or individual can become a member of the DREAM committee by donating the $1,250 annual sponsorship fee. We welcome them to do so!

The scholarship also accepts donations designated for “DREAM Scholarship” on the check’s memo line via the Community Foundation of Henderson County.
